ASTM E303 Floor and Road Slip Resistance Testing

The ASTM E303 slip resistance test uses the pendulum DCOF tester to assess a dynamic coefficient of friction (DCOF) of flooring and roads of all types. It’s officially called the “Standard Test Method for Measuring Surface Frictional Properties Using the British Pendulum Tester”. This test method was revised in 2022 to more closely mirror other pendulum test methods from around the world (such as Australia’s AS 4663 and AS 4586 , and Europe’s EN 13036-4 and BS EN 16165:2021 pendulum slip resistance test methods). The pendulum has a peer-reviewed, published test method in at least 50 nations around the globe, and ASTM E303-22 is now updated to have similar precision as the other international pendulum test methods. This means we can now reliably use the safety criteria for pendulum slip testing that has been established using this tribometer in research studies involving real-world slips and falls for the past 50 years all over the world. This test is also used to assess the skid resistance of road surfaces. We only need one sample to conduct this test, and it needs to be at least 5″x7″. (Larger is fine.)

The charge for an ASTM E303 slip resistance test is $265 per sample. Turnaround time for laboratory testing is usually 2-3 days.
